Tangram Rockets-Maths fun

Maths fun in Room 18. We have been interested in learning about Space. Our interest was sparked when we read about the 50th anniversary of the first men landing on the moon which occurred  on 20 July 1969. Firstly Neil Armstrong and then Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon while Michael Collins stayed in the spacecraft.

The Moon by Sienna

The Moon

The first men on the moon were two Americans. Their names were… Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin (Buzz is his nickname).

Did You Know:
The moon is big but, is only about quarter the size of earth. The moon is made out of rock, minerals and dust. It looks small but, is big. It has HUGE and tiny craters on its surface.

Fun Fact:
Some people believe that their is a man in the moon. But, they also say the moon is made out of cheese! With both of those, they are just myths.

The moon is an interesting thing to learn and explore about.

The Moon
The moon is a big sphere made of rocks, minerals and dust. It is four times smaller than earth, so if you split the earth in four you would have four moon sized pieces. There are many holes on the moon, small holes and big holes.

The first person to take a step on the moon was Neil Armstrong and the second was Buzz Aldrin. Meanwhile Michael Collins was orbiting in the spaceship.

The moon is a great place to learn about because lots of people would like to go to the moon.

1 2 3 Blast Off! by Aayush

The year was 1969 when the first men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (Edwin Aldrin) landed on the moon. Russia was the first country to find the moon but America beat them to landing.

The Sphere of Craters
The moon is a sphere made out of rocks, minerals, moon dust and craters. There is no water or life on the moon because there is no atmosphere. It is also about a quarter the size of the Earth.

Orbit
The Earth orbits the Sun and the Moon orbits the Earth.

Movement
The Moon has different shapes: Crescent, Half and Full. The reason for this is that we see it from different angles. Also it happens every 27 days.

Conclusion
The moon is an interesting planet to learn about.
