Should Dolphins Be Taken From Their Natural Homes by Cassie

In my opiniondolphins shouldn't be taken from their natural habitats.

In an aquarium there isn’t a lot of space, and it’s really boring to swim
around in circles. In the clear ocean water, they can swim as far as they
like.

In dolphin shows, they sometimes get hit in training, if they don’t do it
properly. I think that's just cruel, dolphins have feelings too.

Also, if they take the dolphins away from the sea, into Sea World and
Kelly Tarltons, it would be like taking YOU away from home, to another
random place to live. That would make you feel lonely and sad.

Instead of taking dolphins away for people to view, you could go on a
ferry and you might see dolphins playfully jumping out of the water and
scientists would be able to see dolphins in their natural habitat, not in a
squishy little aquarium.

Dolphins shouldn’t be taken from their homes, stuck in a tiny little
aquarium makes them bored, and they also don’t have freedom. It’s like
being stuck in a small room for your entire life.

If you are about to put a dolphin in an aquarium since you are a scientist,
you might want to reconsider.

Tangram Rockets-Maths fun

Maths fun in Room 18. We have been interested in learning about Space. Our interest was sparked when we read about the 50th anniversary of the first men landing on the moon which occurred  on 20 July 1969. Firstly Neil Armstrong and then Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon while Michael Collins stayed in the spacecraft.

Cherry Blossom Art with Miss Han

This week we really enjoyed our Mandarin lesson with Miss Han. We used black ink and blew on it to create a tree shape. Next we added blossoms.  Our pictures looked very attractive when we had completed them.

Summer is…
Relaxing at the beach while eating ice-cream
Climbing dozens of big, strong trees

Chinese New Year

Room 18 have enjoyed learning about The Chinese New Year. Today we attended a Lion Dance in the hall and made Chinese Lanterns. Thank you to Cassie, Caprice, Kiera and Bella who wore their Chinese costumes to school. Some of Room 18 will attend the Lantern Festival at The Auckland Domain this weekend.
